A letter from the Editor

Dear Friends:
Living here in Florida, summer began around February and we have certainly enjoyed the endless supply of sun and warmth. These were not lazy, hazy days however but instead were filled with the newness of our location and attachments of work to be completed and begun. All and all a very exciting time as we watch life unfold –five steps forward, two steps back. For certain, the two steps back always give us a better perspective.

The Paintings of Casa Guayacan, a series of botanical work indigenous to the Dominican Republic was completed. It now hangs in its place amidst the ocean and palms of its origin. The experience was monumental and one that will remain with me always. I will be forever grateful.

My artwork and art direction for the book, Kirpal Singh – His Grace Lives On, has reached a successful conclusion. The book is published and distributed. The writings of Kirpal Singh, a man dedicated to the wholeness of soul, the oneness of man, and the unity of the two, are once again set within covers. May the meaning shine through – a beacon toward the kingdom of God.

Three weeks in New York to be with students and family has filled me with great satisfaction and joy. Congratulations to all of you who participated in working your fingers to the bone when you’d rather dig your toes in the sand. I applaud your dedication and promise you more hard work next summer!

August will taper off, a slower time to reflect and gear up for the new beginnings of the Botanical Art and Illustration Certificate Program offered at the Ringling School of Art and Design – School of Continuing Studies this fall. The July introduction program at Ringling was a roaring ride through the possibilities of this type of work, and several have signed up for the program. Fasten up for fall, you’re in for a ride.

God bless, OM

In our journey towards God, we proceed
like those small birds whose flight is in loops.
They always seem to be about to drop,
but the drop in their flight seems to urge them forward.
- Gerard W. Hughes

Nobody is bored when he is trying to make something that is beautiful or to discover something that is true.
