A letter from the Editor

Dear Friends:
Most of us love change and exploration. Perhaps it has something to do with our early schoolhouse lessons: The pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock, Lewis and Clark, and presumably, Dr. Livingston. In any case, the artist in us rarely leaves a stone unturned and so the discoveries we make, to apply our artistic talents to, are endless.

It is just this inspiration that has me dancing with a plethora of information. The sheer joy of exploration coupled with the anticipation of execution keeps me up long past my bedtime. Not all attempts are the subject of admiration. Alas, in the quiet of my studio, alone with my paints, who knows but me that the attempt fails? It is true that without courage to explore, the pilgrims would not have landed.

And so, it is with this same courage that I take on my next task as Coordinator of the Ringling School of Art & Design’s new Botanical Art Certificate Program. This program is much anticipated and has the beginning of what may prove to be a very wide audience. Together with the Selby Gardens, we plan to administer a program that will certainly help artists find ways into a new life in the arts. Coupled with an array of incredibly exciting art classes already available at this fabulous school, the Ringling Botanical Art Certificate Program, we are confident, will have great appeal.
